Goal Statement:
To establish or improve supplemental services to meet the special educational needs of migrant children in order to address problems arising from their migrant lifestyles.

Program Description Summary:
Each site within the district receives their allocation of Migrant funds based on the number of Migrant students enrolled at their site. The use of these funds is to be specifically outlined within the site's School Plan and is based on their annual comprehensive needs assessment.

A central part of the Migrant Program needs assessment will be the desegregation of migrant student scores on MCSD Multiple Measures. All supplementary services provided through the use of migrant funds will be based on the unique needs of students from migrant backgrounds.

Goal Statement:
To expand and improve the educational achievement of disadvantaged students in public and private schools.

Program Description Summary:
Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as amended by the Improving America's Schools Act (IASA) of 1994, authorizes supplemental funding for educational programs that are designed to benefit students from low-income families. California receives Title I grant awards from the federal government and then allocates the funds to school districts on the basis of the number of children receiving financial assistance through Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC). Within our school district, schools are ranked based on the percentage of students receiving free and reduced lunch.

Title I funds are intended to provide supplementary, services which may include support personnel, instructional materials, staff development, parent education and consultant services.

Every school in Merced City School District receives Title I funds.  Private schools:  Grace Bishop, Our Lady of Mercy, Providence, and Saint Anthony have students who live within the boundaries of MCSD, and who qualify also receive Title I funds.
