English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
What is ELAC?
The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a school-level committee that advises the principal and school staff on programs and services for English Learners (ELs). ELAC is a vital space for parents to become involved in their child’s education and to provide input on decisions that impact English Learners.
Purpose of ELAC
ELAC helps ensure the academic success of English Learners by:
-
Advising the school on the development of the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), specifically the EL components
-
Assisting in the development of the school's needs assessment
-
Reviewing and promoting attendance strategies
-
Providing input on how to best support English Learners and their families
Who Can Participate?
All parents are welcome, but the majority of ELAC members must be parents or guardians of English Learners. This ensures that decisions are made with a deep understanding of the needs and experiences of EL families.
