The Student Support and Academic Enrichment program under Title IV, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a federal categorical program contained in the Consolidated Application. These funds are intended to increase the capacity of local education agencies (LEAs) to meet the goals of the ESSA by providing all students with access to a well-rounded education, improving school conditions for student learning, and improving use of technology in order to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy of all students with their families.

This effort is supported by Merced City School District's Family Engagement Resource Center (FERC).  Program participants have the opportunity to learn and improve their English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) through classroom instruction and interactive English language computer software.  In addition to language literacy and computer training, they will also have time to acquire ideas and strategies on how to improve student's overall health and wellness (social, emotional, and physical), leadership development, and student safety through presentations/trainings by our district support personnel and/or our agency partners.

Hear From Our Students

The FERC program has helped me tremendously with my English development and computer skills. I started with no English at all; now I am able to read and write independently and help my children with their homework. The free babysitting service makes it possible for parents to attend class and not have to worry about childcare. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and interact with other students in a safe environment. Thank you! Maria Teresa Soriano

I have learned many things in the FERC program to help me develop my English, such as multiple verbs; both regular and irregular, in different tenses (past, present, future, etc.). I also learned how to use the computers and the correct way of typing on the computer. The teachers also taught us verbs, adverbs, adjectives, nouns and pronouns, etc. We learn new things every day.
